Women in the Media: Media Moment #3, "Saturday Night Live"

This season, "Saturday Night Live" cast six new cast members, none of them of color. Furthermore, only one of those new members is a woman.

Kenan Thompson, now a veteran cast member, was asked to address the issue earlier last month, and his response was negatively received. When asked why "SNL" is lacking black female cast members, his answer insinuated a lack of talented black female comedians to choose from.

Tonight, Kerry Washington was host, and the cold open poked fun at the show's diversity problem, asking Washington to play Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey and Beyonce in a single four-minute sketch. The sketch is attempting to find humor in this problem, but it simply isn't a laughing matter.
