Should frats be required to take Women and the Media as a GER?

This is sad. Just thought you would all enjoy being sad about this with me.

Male Model poses in Lingerie Ad

As I was going through newspaper articles at work, I found this article:

The model in the ad is not a biological woman, it is actually male model Andrej Pejic. Pejic is famous for his androgynous look, and has modeled in both men's and women's clothing. He has even been featured in FHM magazine's 100 Sexiest Women in the World 2011. However, this is his first time modeling in women's lingerie.

Is it problematic for a man to model in women's clothing? Is anyone offended by this?

The 25 Hottest Athletes from the Most Random Sports

In order for female athletes to attain attention and support in this strictly biased and stereotyped circumstance, a lot of them choose to pursue the road the media and the society has paved for them. Rather than displaying their athletic prowess and achievement, they exploit their femininity and physical attractiveness to make themselves popular. Any thoughts?

Fake Models

I came across 2 stories about H & M using digital (fake) models

H&M Uses Fake Bodies With Real Heads For Models (PHOTOS)

Why does the fashion industry hate real women

Do you think other companies are using digital models and H & M was just the first to get caught ?

What kind of message does using digital models send ?

Shit Girls Say

There's so much to be said about this. The title of the video, the context, the choice of actors, etc. What do you guys think? Harmless fun or offensive?

The A in PHALT - P

Oprah strikes again.

The talk show host has launched her own channel and a new show "Rolling with Zach" features a travel host, who has cerebral palsy, the show features (from what I can tell from this clip from the pilot) how to deal if things don't go as planned when travelling...just "roll with it," says Zach.

He was one of the winners of the channel's "create Your OWN show" sweepstakes.

I think it's great! What's awesome is Zach has his own personality and from the clip, you can see past his "disability" without the show white washing it (there's so many references to "walking around"reminding us not to take it for granted.)

What do you guys think? A step in over coming the A in PHALT-P?

Lowe's pulls ads from Muslim TV show

Do you think Lowes's reason for pulling their advertising from the show hold any water?

A model of anorexia?

Is this the ideal of beauty? What do you think could be the consequences of having such a skinny young girl winning the most prestigious model contest? Do you think the industry should have regulations, like it was already suggested when a model died of anorexia?

I just thought I'd share this, it shows all the popular women's magazines and how they would look with Disney princesses on it ... What do you guys think?

"Because women bare the brunt of our neurosis. It is much easier for us to place our emotional burdens on the shoulders of our wives, our female friends, our girlfriends, our female employees, our female colleagues, than for us to impose them on the shoulders of men.

It’s a whole lot easier to emotionally manipulate someone who has been conditioned by our society to accept it. We continue to burden women because they don’t refuse our burdens as easily. It’s the ultimate cowardice."

Amazing quote from:

Give it a full read, and see what you think about "gaslighting".

Sofia Vergara for Kmart

As I was researching ideas for my project, I came across this ad campaign for Kmart featuring Colombian actress Sofia Vergara:

What ideas about womanhood are being perpetuated in the commercial? Is Vergara empowering women, or is there a negative message behind it? Also, does the commercial send out any messages about Latina women?

Sinfully Delicious

I was online looking for this Duane Reade Gelato advertisement that I was controversial until I stumbled onto this one on images. This was a way more controversial gelato ad than DR ad which only had a picture of the brand ice creams and text that said, " You'll start to forget him by the 4th spoonful." The ad right here is of Federici's "Sinfully Delicious Gelato" and you can see a sacrilegious nun and pastor. On one side they are touching each other physically and the other just gazing at each other sexually with the gelato in their hands.

My question is: Are the advertisers trying to say even people who are thought to be religious still act bad and why is the pastor still the aggressor? Couldn't it have been the nun?
