Reflection: On perceptions of women

When we discussed the different perceptions the western society has of Arab women,or Muslim women in general, the concept of choice and point of view was brought up. The "white woman" thinks that she is free because the other is forced to cover her whole body. The "Muslim woman" thinks she is free because she isn't forced by phallocentric society to determine her beauty by exposing skin. This cartoon depicts the core of the argument that essentially both "sides" are dominated by a male society. For both the women in this there is a grass is greener on my side point of view. What do you guys think?

  1. I like this example because it shows how different cultures are different. And that is good, but people need to respect these differences and stop expecting that their view is the right one. The whole idea of choice when discussing the Muslim hijab a lot of times is left out and I think it is important to consider each side and put yourself in the shoes of the other.
