Response to Beyonce's Girls Run the World

Do you think Beyonce's song deserves this critique? If so, why? If not, why not?

  1. I think this is an awesome critique of Beyonce's song and totally unexpected. At first listen, it really does sound like an empowering song for girls but I agree with the author of this video that it inspires women (and men) to sort of take a final bow and lay low on feminism and moving forward when there is still so much more progress with equality that can be made. It also made me wonder whether or not Beyonce truly wrote this song or if it was her idea. She tends to have good intentions with her female empowerment songs even though there are definitely more negative ways of interpreting them. But this song almost seems like a man wrote it as a way to say "Chill out, girls. You rule the world. Stop it with all the this feminist stuff", so that we'll just stay where we are and not move forward, thus leaving more room for men to continue progressing.

  2. As a Beyonce fan, I always feel conflicted when issues like this come up concerning her music. I love Beyonce, and her music makes me feel happy but I understand the points made in this video. I actually looked up on the song on Wikipedia, and it is written by a group of men including rapper The Dream, and DJs Diplo and Afrojack.
