When did we become maids?

Moving into the Latina topic next week, I remembered this poster for a new show that I found very disturbing. Latino women are almost always depicted as maids even the very popular show Family Guy makes fun of it with a Mexican maid called Consuela.

I feel that Latino women are only depicted in two ways, either the very dumb but sexy chick or as a maid does anyone agree? Why do you think that is?
