It's strange to see this post up today because yesterday I had a very bizarre experience on the subway. A delusional homeless woman was making a speech asking for money and individually going up to passengers harrassing them. An Asian man was sitting across from me and he had his young daughter in his lap. When the woman came up to him and he looked away, she asked "Are you a man or a woman?" You could tell that this made him uncomfortable, regardless of whether he was transgender or not. He told her he was a man and she continued harassing him asking if he actually had a d*ck. When she finally left him along, his young daughter started asking tons of questions. It was quite a sad thing to witness and it made everyone around feel uncomfortable and sorry for the guy. Our need to characterize people based on a single glance can be hurtful and wrong.
